They can face down bigots and werewolves together, but the truth may force them apart.
Brandt Davis loved being part of his werewolf pack, until they found his stash of gay porn. He escaped their anger, running in wolf-form into the wilderness, but he can't live that way forever. And he can't hide in fur like a coward when an injured man needs his help.
Ethan Sjulstad knows life is making him crazy when a solo hike into the Boundary Waters seems reasonable. Then a bad fall leaves him injured and facing death.Delirious, he hallucinates being rescued by a big grey wolf and a naked woodland godling. For a man who has always loved fantasy, it's worth surviving just to find out what the hell is going on.
Unjustified Claims Kaje Harper Books
4.5 stars, rounded up to 5The fact that it took me less than 24 hours to completely read this book says a lot - both the story and the characters grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Brandt and Ethan are a fascinating (and extremely hot!) couple - each one damaged in their own way with their own heavy baggage. Harper takes a good portion of the book to focus on their developing relationship before connecting previously-established characters and plot elements. This really helps Ethan and Brandt stand out on their own, and makes their motivations clear and logical.
The last 30% of the book is a whirlwind. The plot points come together in a fever pitch and I was left absolutely clueless how everything could possibly be resolved without bloodshed - or worse. While the resolution wasn't 100% satisfying, it was in keeping with parts of the story which have been established earlier in the series.
As some reviewers mention (but I don't want to get too far into detail), there is some mild kink in Brandt and Ethan's relationship. While not particularly to my taste, I found it really helped give insight into the characters and made them stand out among the many werewolves and humans that we have met to date. I recommend this book if you enjoyed the first two, and I would urge readers to go in with an open mind and be ready for some damn steamy scenes!

Unjustified Claims Kaje Harper Books Reviews
I had this on pre-order the minute I read about it on the author's website, and I didn't even check the price til later, when I found myself wondering if the book would be worth the just-under-six-quid price, and boy, is it. Kaje Harper is one author whose books are pretty much Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way, and this was a great addition to the series. I hope that there will be more, as KH calls this one 'this instalment', but even if there weren't, this would work as an end of series, I think, with matters left to readers' imaginations.
This is the tale of Brandt, a 29yo bi wolf, who gets outed in his pack as supposedly being not only gay, but having a sexual kink or two. Rather than risk finding out his fate, he runs and enters territory close to where Aaron's pack is, where he comes across an injured hiker, Ethan, a gay local motel owner, who's being subjected to threats of violence and anti-gay slurs/taunts.
At first, Brandt simply intends to get Ethan to safety, but when he sees what the man has been going through, he decides to stay and help him get on his feet, working at the motel for a small amount of money and board. Their romance is pretty slow to take off, as Brandt is wary of admitting he's gay, and of bringing pack danger onto Ethan, so the leads get to know each other pretty well and are starting to trust each other as they fall for one another. Brandt makes Ethan see that he's not to blame for another's past actions, which is one of the things that some of the locals blame him for, and Ethan starts to believe that he can be happy, that he's not responsible for what happened. In return, Brandt is able to reveal his desires and wants to Ethan - though of course, he has to keep his wolf hidden - who not only accepts them, but encourages them. Personally, I hadn't ever thought to find that particular (not OTT) kink sexy, but KH described it all so sensually and with such closeness between the guys as a result of the sharing, that she made it seem perfectly normal, and yes, even sexy.
Things come to a head when Aaron and a few of his pack arrive, and Brandt's instinct is to submit to a stronger wolf...which makes Ethan suspicious of their interactions, their strange talk, Brandt's behaviour, and which makes him do something that is integral to where KH takes this tale, and which works out great, but which I thought would have been seen by Brandt as a betrayal so great, it would have ended them as a couple.
I wasn't sure, initially, how KH would weave this tale into Aaron's pack, but she did it perfectly, and there were a few surprises there. Though we don't get to find out totally for sure, I'm fairly convinced that Brandt and Ethan aren't the only couple getting a HEA in this tale, and whilst I would have liked confirmation, that other couple won't likely get a tale of their own, but if there is more to the series, I'm sure we'll see more of them. To see a sexy, good-looking guy be so gentle and caring to a baby that's not his, was sweet and made him even sexier in my eyes.
There were a few reveals in this tale that I hadn't seen coming, as I was so engrossed in what I was thinking was going to be a major betrayal, and I'm glad that everything meshed and worked out. There could be more books written in this series, as the author gave us plenty to think about, but I'm not sure if she'll risk bringing things a bit more down to earth by doing so. I loved what Aaron did out of love for Zach, as I hadn't thought that we'd ever see him bottoming for Zach, and - NO SPOILER - what he did do, was AN AMAZING PROOF OF HIS LOVE, AND VERY HUMBLING. The consequences of that alone, deserve at least a bonus scene, if not a novella, please, Ms Harper? Maybe a little something for Christmas, or as a freebie on your website? You can't drop that on readers and not let them see what happens next!
This was a great tale, a 5* Keeper, and whilst I'd love more in the series, I can't see who a new set of leads might be, unless a certain someone does quite a lot of growing up, and I personally would be OK with the series ending as it is - with us knowing what's to come, but not having the ins-and-outs elaborated.
Update - the author's website says that there will be at least one more tale in the series, but no timescales are mentioned. Still, YEAH!!
I love shifter books and this series is one the best I've read. Lotsa love, sex and running "in fur"
I really liked this a lot but gave it 4 rather than 5 stars as some people may be less keen on one slightly kinky element, or may find it too farfetched. I enjoyed the diversity as much as the always enjoyable character driven stories that Kaje creates.
I have to say this is the best book in the series yet! Ethan and Brandt are a great mix of personalities. Coming out can be a hell of a ride. They get to do it twice, three times when you count the bonding. Enjoy this book, but read the series too. You won't be disappointed.
There were too many things I just didn't like about this story.

[Ethan's spying and plan to spill the beans about the existence of shifters, the plotline for the Council to out the wolves to the world (without explanation), the endless hot and cold reactions of the MCs toward each other, etc.]
And this particular kink felt more like an unexplored plot bunny than an organic part of the story. I didn't even like Ethan.
I well and truly had to force myself to finish this one. I quite liked the first book, thought the second one was just "ok", but I'm done with this series. Even though it was well written and edited, it held no interest for me.
