Heart of a Lawman Sons of Silver Springs Book 1 edition by Patricia Rosemoor Romance eBooks Reviews
I expected a little more heat between Josie and Bart but the story was definitely exciting.
You're introduced to several men that could possibly be the one from Josie's past that is stalking her. Meanwhile, you get little glimpses of the past she is slowly remembering.
I thought her fake name of Josie Wales was a little cheesy. No one associated it with the Clint Eastwood movie until Bart has his law friend look into Josie? Come on. I thought that would have been obvious.
I gave it 4 stars.
I love Patricia Rosemoor's writing, and HEART OF A LAWMAN certainly didn't disappoint. The atmosphere is tense throughout and the mystery is well-developed and sustained until the climax. Bart and Josie are fascinating characters, and I personally look forward to more information about them in the sequels yet to come in this exciting new series from one of the true masters of romantic suspense. Good job, Ms. Rosemoor!
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. New author for me and the book was a decent read. I do like the writing style and want to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed this book. It starts off ok but then after you read a little you have to keep going to see what will happen next. Well worth the time and money to get this book. Well written. Excellent storyline. I received this book for free for an honest review.
Patricia Rosemoor kicks off her latest trilogy, The Sons of Silver Springs, with "Heart of a Lawman." Bart Quarrels has returned to the ranch where he grew up to take over from his ailing father. The ranch is in trouble, but so is Josie Wales, a newcomer in town who has amnesia. Someone she can't remember is stalking her. When she gets hired on at the ranch, the danger follows, and the former lawman is forced to protect his beautiful ranch hand.
"Heart of a Lawman" is a pleasant tale with the feel of a traditional Western. Cowboys are always a popular romantic hero, but Josie is also a great heroine, a strong and capable horse wrangler living the life many readers dream of. Rosemoor does her usual fine job building the sense of danger, with a number of tense encounters and perilous moments. I suspected who the villain was at one point, but the author made it so I was never too sure I was right. The final showdown is a nail-biter, and the glimpses of what's to come in the next two books are truly intriguing.
I do have to admit this is a story I liked more than I loved. While I've often commented on Intrigues that have plenty of romance and too little action, this one has the opposite problem. There is plenty of action and a number of subplots, but the romance is very underdeveloped. It's 200 pages in before Bart and Josie move past the little sparks they occasionally feel around one another and really seem to make a connection. This is the kind of book where the author has to mention in the epilogue how the relationship has progressed, since she didn't have time to show the development of the romance in her story. She also leaves some loose ends, some of them obviously set up for events in the coming books, but some of which felt like they should have been answered in this one. Sadly, the characters of Bart's children probably could have been cut and the story would have hardly changed, they were so underdeveloped.
On the whole, Rosemoor's fluid writing style and flair for keeping readers guessing will have them turning the pages. "Heart of a Lawman" is a pleasing tale that indicates she has some interesting tales in store for her readers in the coming months.
I loved this book.. It was well written and a wonderful love story of learning to trust again.
Bart Quarrels was a lawman who left the profession to return home to the Curly Q ranch to help his dying father to help the ranch recover. His wife had been killed a year earlier and he and his kids were still grieving her loss. Bart hoped this move would help them all to heal.
Josie Wallace had amnesia and didn't know who she was but as her memories were slowly returning she was constantly in fear that someone was watching her. She needed a job and a place to stay. When Bart agreed to hire her as his ranch's horse wrangler, she began to remember her love of horses. She had a hard time trusting anyone but somehow she knew that Bart was a good man and trustworthy.
As their feelings began to develop more and more of her memories were returning but could she protect him and his family from the monster who was after her? Would it be better for everyone if she left before anyone got hurt?
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I can't wait until I get the next two books in this series.Lots of action, thrills and suspense.Plus plenty of fun.
